THE SCIENCE

The science behind IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense is well-established and has been verified by third party testing. Its active ingredient has been registered for use by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and is the first new antimicrobial registered with the EPA in the past 30 years. It has been known for centuries that silver has disinfecting properties. Silver was used as a germicide as long ago as Greek and Roman times. The active ingredient in IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense is silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC), a patented, electrolytically-generated source of ionic silver which is stabilized in citric acid.

This formulation took almost a decade to develop and patent.

Unlike most commonly-used commercial or household antibacterial or cleaning products, it is colorless, odorless, non-flammable and non-corrosive. There are no fumes and it does not cause skin irritation.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency categorizes all antimicrobial products according to a toxicity scale from I to IV (I being most toxic and IV being the least). Traditional disinfectants, which use active ingredients such as ethanol or ammonium chloride, fall into categories I and II. The SDC dilution used in IV-7 is in category IV.

TROJAN HORSE

IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense attacks and kills germs from both inside and outside. Its method of germ defense is simple, yet extraordinarily effective. In this case, "the best defense is a good offense."

Microbes see the citric acid in the product as a food source - it acts as a scientific "Trojan Horse." When they ingest it, the silver ion in the SDC ingredient enters the microbes. Once inside, the silver ion binds to the microbe's DNA, which blocks it from replicating itself and killing it. Meanwhile, the silver ion also is attracted to sulfur-containing thiol groups found in metabolic and structural proteins bound to the surface of the membrane of a microbe. The SDC destroys the structure of these proteins, which causes the organism to die.

RESIDUAL POWER

Common antibacterial surface-cleaning products are alcohol-based and simply kill germs on surfaces at the moment they are applied. IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense goes much farther: Once applied to a hard surface, it continues killing germs for at least 24 hours. This is a tremendous benefit for areas such as desks in schools and offices, tables, counters and other high traffic areas.

LASTING POWER

Traditional silver-based disinfectants only kill germs for a short period of time and have short shelf lives. In contrast, IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense has a shelf life of several years.

HOW TO USE IV-7 ULTIMATE GERM DEFENSETM

For disinfecting, spray a hard surface thoroughly with IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense. Don't just mist the surface - wet it completely so the liquid beads up on the surface. The chart on the label tells how long to leave it on the surface. It will be at least 30 seconds, depending on which germs you are targeting.

Then, wipe the surface thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth. Microfiber cloths work especially well. Wiping the surface thoroughly will prevent any stickiness.

CLEAN WATER/SAVING LIVES FACTS

From space, the Earth looks blue because two thirds of its surface is covered with water. But appearances can be deceiving. Even on a planet covered in water, one of humanity's more scarce and precious resources is ... water.

Every year, more than three million people die from diseases related to impure water - 84% of the victims are children aged 14 and younger.

Dirty water and related sanitation problems kill more people than warfare.

Clean Water: A Matter of Life and Death

Four billion humans need extraordinary amounts of water to live - and of the world's fresh water, 96% is unsafe to drink!

Indeed, so desperate are humans for safe drinking water that some experts fear that future conflicts might arise over struggles for scarce water resources.

In the Third World, having access to safe drinking water is more than a luxury - it is a matter of life and death.

And when natural disasters hit, the shortage of safe drinking water takes on a terrible urgency.

The germ-killing technology in IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense is the same technology in IV-7 concentrate, which has already been used successfully to purify drinking water for hundreds of thousands of people.

Following the deadly tsunami in Southern Asia, the catastrophic earthquake in China and, more recently, the devastating earthquake in Haiti, IV-7's technology (patented silver dihydrogen citrate liquid concentrate) was donated to the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations for the relief of victims.

Just six drops of the IV-7 concentrate will purify an entire gallon of water.

Hundreds of thousands of small two-ounce bottles of the IV-7 liquid concentrate were sent to the disaster areas. People who otherwise would have fallen ill or died from drinking contaminated water were able to use the water at hand from streams, lakes or rainfall without fear.

Unlike shipments of bottled water, which take up lots of space and are harder to transport, the IV-7 concentrate could get to the people who needed it much more quickly. Enough to purify 40 million gallons of water fit into just two helicopters.

We are determined to bring this lifesaving solution to as many people as possible, in all parts of our thirsty world.

IV-7 concentrate is not registered or sold in the U.S. for water treatment.

IV-7 ULTIMATE GERM DEFENSE PRODUCT FAQ's

1. Is IV-7 really different than other disinfectants like Lysol?
A: First of all, the active ingredient in IV-7 is silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC). SDC is patented by the manufacturer (PURE Bioscience). No other manufacturer has it.
Second, you have to look at what those other products are claiming. Do they call themselves "sanitizers?" If so, by definition they don't kill all the germs.
Third, look at what those products contain. If they have alcohol or bleach, they aren't "green" and aren't in the lowest toxicity category like IV-7.
Fourth, look at whether the other products claim to offer 24-hour residual protection, as IV-7 does. They don't! Other antimicrobials only kill germs at the moment they are sprayed onto a surface. The surface quickly gets re-contaminated.
Fifth, can those other products say that germs cannot develop resistance to them? IV-7 can make that claim.

2. Is IV-7 a cleaner?
A: There is a small amount of "surfactant" in IV-7, which gives it a bit of cleaning power. But that is not really what IV-7 is for. IV-7 is first and foremost formulated to protect you and your family from germs. It is a disinfectant.

3. How is IV-7 different from other silver-based disinfectants?
A: Most other silver based technologies utilize colloidal silver. IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense contains fully active, stabilized ionic silver, silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC), at a specific concentration of 30 parts per million - thousands of times higher than colloidal silver but with exponentially less total silver mass. The patented process developed to manufacture SDC provides stabilized ionic silver in aqueous citric acid solution.

4. What will IV-7 kill?
1. IV-7 kills a wide range of bacteria, viruses and fungi including the following: Pandemic 2009 H1N1 Influenza Virus (formerly called swine flu)* Staphylococcus aureus MRSA Pseudomonas aeruginosa CA-MRSA (Community Associated Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) CA-MRSA-PVL (Community Associated Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) Acinetobacter baumannii Campylobacter jejuni VRE (Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium) Salmonella enterica Listeria monocytogenes E. coli (Escherichia coli 0157:H7) HIV type 1 Human Coronavirus Rhinovirus Rotavirus Norovirus Polio Type 2 Influenza A Avian Influenza A Herpes Simplex Type 1 Athlete's foot fungus (Trichophyton mentagrophytes)

5. How long will IV-7 kill viruses, bacteria and fungi after I apply it?
A: Common antibacterial surface-cleaning products are alcohol-based and simply kill germs on surfaces at the moment they are applied. IV-7 goes much farther: Once applied to a hard surface, it continues killing germs for at least 24 hours, according to the EPA.

6. How soon does IV-7 begin to kill viruses, bacteria and fungi after I apply it?
A: IV-7 kills some viruses, bacteria and fungi in as little as 30 seconds. Consult the product label for more details on kill times.

7. If I use IV-7 often, will bacteria or viruses build up immunity to it?
A: No! Bacteria and viruses do not develop a resistance to IV-7.

8. Is IV-7 patented?
A: Pure Bioscience, the manufacturer of the product, owns five patents on the technology and has several hundred use patents filed.

9. Which government agencies have registered IV-7?
A: IV-7 has been registered by the U.S. EPA.

10. Can I use IV-7 on my skin? Will it irritate my skin?
A: IV-7 is intended for use on hard surfaces and is not registered for use topically. However, if some gets on your skin, it will not cause skin irritation. Remember to refer to the product label for EPA registered claims.

11. What if I swallow some IV-7? Is it toxic?
A: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency categorizes all antimicrobial products according to a toxicity scale from I to IV (I being most toxic and IV being the least.). Traditional disinfectants, which use active ingredients such as ethanol or ammonium chloride, fall into categories I and II. The SDC dilution used in IV-7 is in category IV, the lowest toxicity level available.

12. Will repeated use of IV-7 turn my skin blue, like colloidal silver?
A: No! IV-7 uses ionized silver and will not turn your skin blue. Colloidal silver is simply finely ground silver particles and is not stable, ionized silver like the technology in IV-7.

13. Does IV-7 smell bad / smell strong? Can I use it in crowded areas (e.g. an office)?
A: IV-7 is completely odorless, unlike alcohol or bleach-based products, and can be used in areas where people are around, such as in an office, school or hospital.

14. Can I use IV-7 in the kitchen near a stove / cook-top? Is it flammable?
A: IV-7 is not flammable.

15. If I get IV-7 on my clothes, will it stain or ruin my clothes?
A: No, IV-7 will not stain fabrics.

16. Who has tested the product? How do I know it is safe?
A: The safety of silver compounds has been studied extensively. The EPA has evaluated silver on several occasions and concluded that there are no adverse health effects associated with ingesting silver. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry did studies as long ago as 1990 and found silver to have no toxic effects at the doses tested. Tests done by the World Health Organization in 2003 and by the National research Council in 2004 reached the same results.

17. Who manufactures IV-7 and where is IV-7 manufactured?
A: IV-7 is manufactured in San Diego, CA by Pure Bioscience, a publicly-traded company listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange (NASDAQ: PURE).

A: IV-7 is approved for use on hard, non-porous surfaces. Couches and other types of upholstery are considered porous services.

21. Can IV-7 be used on vinyl? If so, will it stain material after multiple applications over time?
A: IV-7 can be used on vinyl and should not stain after multiple applications over time. As for all applications, if you have concerns about staining, you should test IV-7 on inconspicuous section of the surface before applying to the whole surface.

22. Will IV-7 kill parvovirus?
A: IV-7 has not been tested against parovirus so no claim can be made against that organism. Per U.S. laws, every organism a disinfectant product claims to kill has to be proven in extensive third party lab testing and then officially registered with the EPA.

23. Can I use IV-7 on my pet's kennel?
A: Yes, you can use it in your pet's kennel without the concern of exposing your pet to harmful chemicals. IV-7 is completely safe for use around your pets and its fast kill times and odorless formula make applications around pets ideal.

24. Can I use IV-7 on my pets for treating illnesses?
A: No, IV-7 is intended for use on hard, non-porous surfaces and objects. IV-7 is not specifically approved for use on animals. Remember to always refer to your product label for approved uses.

A: Yes, residual protection will still be imparted to the surface even after wiping up IV-7 as directed by the EPA approved label instructions.

30. Does the product need to be wiped off the surface after the required dwell time?
A: Yes, the product should be wiped off. It is important to always refer to the product label for proper use instructions.

31. Can the product be diluted with water to make it last longer?
A: No, the product should not be diluted with water. IV-7 is a ready to use product, meaning it has been formulated to work without any need for dilution. Diluting the product will not guarantee the specified kill times as detailed on the label.

32. Can I pack IV-7 in my carry-on luggage when I fly?
A: Yes, if you have IV-7 in the convenient 3oz package, you are free to travel with it in your carry-on.

33. What is the difference between a disinfectant and a sanitizer?
A: There is a general misunderstanding by the consuming public as to the difference between a disinfectant and a sanitizer; the perception being that they are equally effective. In fact, sanitizers only reduce the number of viruses and bacteria (99.9% often advertised) while a disinfectant kills effectively all viruses and bacteria (greater than 99.9999%). Sanitizers are therefore only effective at reducing the number of organisms present on a surface, leaving the remaining organisms to quickly reproduce after the sanitizer's application. Furthermore, the organisms that remain after the application of a sanitizer may become resistant to future sanitizing treatments thereby reducing the effectiveness of a sanitizer after repeated applications. IV-7 is a disinfectant. It not only kills all bacteria on a surface, it also does not allow bacterial resistance.

34. Why EPA registration?
A: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires all disinfectants to be registered for sale in the United States. In addition, disinfectants must be registered in each state where the product is sold.

35. Can IV-7 be used to control odors?
A: IV-7 eliminates odors and disinfects in one-step. IV-7 works by killing the bacteria that causes the odors, not just covering them up.

36. What are MRSA and VRE?
A: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) are two of the most widespread antibiotic-resistant pathogens that cause hospital/ public facility- acquired infections. IV-7 is effective against both VRE and strains of MRSA.

37. Does IV-7 need to be mixed with water?
A: No, IV-7 comes in a ready to use formula and no mixing is required.

38. Does IV-7 meet Clean Air and Water Act standards?
A: IV-7 does not contain any hazardous air pollutants, Class 1 Ozone depletors or Class 2 Ozone depletors. Also, none of the chemicals in IV-7 are listed as Hazardous Substances under the Clean Water Act (CWA), Priority Pollutants under the CWA, or Toxic Pollutants under the CWA.

39. Can I use any bottle to apply IV-7?
A: It is important that IV-7 only be stored in opaque bottles (not transparent or translucent) due to the photo sensitivity of silver.

40. How far will my bottle of IV-7 go?
A: A 32oz. bottle will disinfect approximately 1,000 square feet.

41. Is IV-7 fragrance free?
A: Yes, IV-7 is fragrance free and completely odorless.

42. Is IV-7 registered in all 50 states?
A: Yes, IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense is registered in all 50 states.

43. What can I do to prevent stickiness?
A: The citric acid in the product causes it to be slightly sticky if it is allowed to dry on the surface without being wiped off. This would be similar to letting an orange juice spill dry on your counter. In order to prevent it from happening, follow the directions for use on the back of the product-spray on the surface, wetting thoroughly; let it sit and then wipe the surface dry.

44. At what temperatures can IV-7 be stored?
A: IV-7 should be stored in a cool, dry place and at temperatures above freezing.

45. Do other products have a 24 hour residual claim like IV-7?
A: No. IV-7 is the only disinfectant that has an EPA registered claim for 24 hour residual kill claim.

46. Should I be concerned about a buildup of silver on surfaces I disinfect regularly with IV-7?
A: No, even at maximum use levels there is no concern of silver buildup on surfaces.

47. Is IV-7 more environmentally friendly than other disinfecting products?
A: IV-7 is made from only naturally-occurring elements and it is not harmful to the environment. Most other disinfecting products contain alcohol or bleach, which are both harmful to the environment.

48. Will the efficacy of IV-7 be reduced when it is used on stainless steel surfaces?
A: IV-7 is approved for use on stainless steel surfaces and is effective when used on them.

49. Why is EPA registration so important?
A: It proves that the U.S. government has tested the product and has verified its efficacy as a germ killer. If a product makes a claim to kill organisms but does not have an EPA registration number on its label, the product is in violation of federal law. Products which are registered by the EPA assure that all claims on the label were tested under EPA approved protocols and reviewed by the EPA.

50. Do I need to worry about dangerous chemical reactions if IV-7 is combined with other cleaning chemicals?
A: IV-7 is a ready to use formulation and should not be combined with any other chemicals. If IV-7 is accidentally exposed to other chemicals, no dangerous fumes or other reactions should occur.

51. Can I use IV-7 to disinfect my baby's pacifier?
A: IV-7 for Food Contact Surfaces, which will be available within the next couple months, can be used on pacifiers.

52. Can I use IV-7 on surfaces that come in contact with my food, like cutting boards?
A: IV-7 Ultimate Germ Defense for Food Contact Surfaces will be available later this year and is approved for use on surfaces which come in contact with food without the need for rinsing the surface.

53. Does IV-7 kill both positive and negative gram bacteria?
A: Yes. Please refer to the IV-7 label for more information.

54. IV-7 has residual protection against bacteria, but does it also have residual protection against viruses and fungi?
A: IV-7 has only been approved by the EPA for residual protection against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enterica. These are all bacteria. The EPA has not approved a protocol for testing residual efficacy against either viruses or fungi.

55. Why does IV-7 not have signal words like "caution," "danger" or "warning" on the label?
A: IV-7 has been assigned the lowest toxicity category allowed by the EPA-Category IV. Category IV products do not require any warning, signal words or first aid instructions on the label. Products that are hazardous are required to carry the label warning: "Hazard to humans and domestic animals."
